I was in between appointments in Utah County with 2 hours to burn, so I tried my old standby of checking out Utah Lake State Park. There is a less known road right before the state park that borders the lake without all the people, and on this day, the flies were plentiful, perfect for Black Birds, Cow Birds and Yellow Headed Black Birds to gorge on flies if possible, but catching them is the trick and I wouldn’t be surprised if they burned more calories catching them than they get. I noticed the beautiful tamarisk tree blossoms and waited patiently until this Yellow Headed Black Bird landed here and netted us this very colorful portrait.
