Sandhill Crane with Avocets Chasing

Recurvirostra americana & Antigone canadensis

Avocets seem to have something against bigger birds being near them, especially during nesting season. I have seen and photographed them chasing away pheasants and sand hill cranes. This sand hill crane seemed to be minding its own business when these two avocets started diving at it until it couldn’t stand it anymore and had to take flight or be dive bombed and who can concentrate on catching your meal in your beak when you are being attacked?
