I had been wandering around with these bulls and about 30 cow elk for hours, enthralled by every one of them. This big bull was constantly busy schmoozing his ladies so they would not run away to another bull, bugling loudly letting other bulls know that he was there, and chasing off the satellite bulls that were actively trying to take his ladies. Even though it looks like he is coming after me in this shot, he is actually chasing off a much faster satellite bull, while the other, smaller bulls (and me) are glad that he is not chasing after us.
