Bison Calf With Cow in Grassland
This bison cow and newly born calf were actually very difficult to capture. I headed to Antelope Island on this day specifically to photograph baby bison while they still look orange. Their coloring changes not long after they are born to more of a brown color.
It was raining very hard that day and I spotted the big herd, so I walked carefully the long way around, careful to stay out of sight, but they sensed me and took off anyway. I followed as fast as I could, but they are faster and stronger and bigger, so they kept far ahead.
When I finally got to where I could see them again, I noticed a cow or two and the newborn calves and I noticed that the entire herd was doing everything they could to keep the little one out of my sight, but I did manage to get this shot.
